So, I talked last about change. And how change can be cathartic and wonderful, especially when it’s the right thing to do. I have made another change. No, no, my hair is not blue (however I would like a pink streak or two, but fear that may impede upon my future in higher education). I have made a change that I am excited about. I have decided to become a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant. Now, before you roll your eyes and sigh, “another DSA company” hear me out. I love, love, love Mary Kay products. And I know that some of them contain ingredients that do not necessarily jive with my sustainability life style, but sometimes a girl just wants to feel pretty. And sometimes nature doesn’t allow for that. If I was happy with my skin and the course nature is taking it on, I wouldn’t spend any money ever on cosmetics or skin care products. I need these things, people. NEED them. And MK has the right balance of gorgeousness while being budget-friendly, and they use sustainable packaging. I can’t be perfect here, people. I have started to see the effects of the environment, genetics, and age on my face, and I’d like to get rid of that for as long as humanly possible. I don’t “welcome wrinkles and laugh lines.” I’m not cool enough for that. I’d like to banish that junk. I have found Mary Kay. And their TimeWise line. And their mineral foundation. And their Satin Lips and Satin Hands… do not get me started. We could be here all night. I have always, always been a skin care junkie. A beauty products hoarder. And now, I can do it at a discount and make some profit from it! Dude! Score! 🙂
Also? I really, really respect what the company stands for. They donate money to organizations that help women. A lot of women. All over the world. All races, colors, creeds, religions, sexual orientations… Mary Kay LOVES women. And as a feminist, I love women, too. Now, I don’t always “like” women, but that’s not the point. Mary Kay takes a stand FOR women. Women. Like me. Like you. Isn’t that great? I love it.
I have decided to start slow and just pursue it for the discount *50%!*, but the more I look at it, the more it could be useful for things like C’s tuition payments, Shawn’s car payment, Miche bags… wait, that’s not on my goals sheet, but I will add it. I think I will start doing consultations after fall semester starts. I would just like to build a regular client base to serve, and I’d like to meet new people to serve along the way. I love doing for others, and to give women the chance to feel amazingly beautiful, if even for only that night, is something I look forward to in its due time. I have to believe that God puts everything in my path for a reason, and I contemplated Mary Kay for a while. And you know what, I went for it. The products are awesome. The opportunity is amazing. The mission and drive for the company is modern, with the times, and absolutely admirable. You can’t go wrong, really. Did you know they teach the Mary Kay Business model in the Harvard School of Business? They do! How incredible is that!? And Mary Kay is constantly winning awards for their products, including the Good Housekeeping Seal for their TimeWise line. Mary Kay is a company that knows what it’s doing! I’m impressed by everything I have seen, everyone I have talked to, and the results speak for themselves. Mary Kay has been around for so long because they’ve got it right. They know what they have, and they know women want it. Some women need it, for many reasons. I look forward to seeing where I can take this little venture, and where it could possibly take me. I am open to anything, as long as they continue on the path they have set upon.
Besides, who wouldn’t want a piece of a business where the sole purpose is making women, all women, feel beautiful and worth it?
