Tonight, we shall talk about Christmas music. In general, I enjoy Christmas music. It is upbeat. It tells a good story and it really encompasses the spirit of the season. However, I do NOT like Christmas music in October. Or much before Thanksgiving if I am being completely honest. I like to compartmentalize the holidays and make sure each gets its own fair play. I do NOT like the fact that Christmas kind of gets an entire trimester of the year. That is annoying. And makes me stabby. But I am digressing…
I like the classics. Johnny Mathis. Nat King Cole. N*Sync. What? “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays” is my Yuletide jam! Nothing says Merry Christmas like JT’s platinum highlights, CK’s bike tassels in his hair and the sweet, sweet melodies of our favorite 90s boy band…..Also, related to J Timberlake, is the ever-popular, “Dick in a Box,” which was an instant Christmas classic. But this is a family channel, people. No pictures of that mess here. 🙂 Didn’t hear of it? Google it. You’re welcome.
I do not like the Chipmunks, they annoy me. I DO like the “War is Over, Happy Christmas” by John Lennon. I think the best Christmas CD ever was John Denver and the Muppets (that CD takes me right back to high school). Instrumental Christmas music puts me to sleep. I liked playing it in the band, and the year I got to be the horse at the end of “Sleigh Ride” on my trumpet was about the best moment ever (band geek alert).
Christmas music, when seasonally appropriate, really puts me in the mood for the Most Wonderful Time of the Year. I like singing it, Caelan likes to sing it (Her current fave? “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” which she calls the “New Old Fashioned Way” song LOL) and we like to listen to it. It’s fun. You cannot frown while singing Christmas music. It’s impossible, TRUST me I have tried. I am typically a Scrooge McDuck this time of year, and if I can be feeling the Yuletide Spirit, you all should be, too.
Want to make Shawn really happy? Play “Last Christmas” By Wham! He LOVES that song. Nothing makes him want to
punch babies dance in the aisles in an elf hat more that that little ditty from our favorite 80s band. I am planning on making it my ringtone for him right after I get done on here. 🙂
How about you? Christmas songs? Favorites? Kids favorites? Seasonal or all year? Hate them? Love them?
I am just going to keep asking you questions until you answer me, and I have almost 80 followers and plenty of hits everyday, I KNOW someone is reading this…
