I don’t know about you, but I am done Christmas shopping. And that includes the two kids I pick every year off of the giving tree. Everyone always asks us what to get the girls, and I rarely have any ideas. I don’t like going all out for Christmas (though, I admit last year we did because it was Caelan’s last as an Only. We STILL have things down the basement she hasn’t even touched because she got so much stuff…). I don’t think that’s what it’s about. No, I’m not going to go all Jesus on here. Not tonight…I have 8 more days of Christmas left!!
I like to be done as early as possible. This year was the VERY first year that Shawn and I actually got each other a gift for Christmas. And we went big!
Behold!! Our gift to each other. We have both wanted a fireplace in the house for so long (since we bought it four years ago), and this year we had a little extra money, so we said, “what the heck?” And I LOVE it. I am obsessed with it. I turn it on the minute I come in the house and hum, “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire” (humming, simply, because I don’t know all the words). I love, love, love it and I am so glad that we are in a position to be able to buy each other something, let alone something this awesome. 🙂
The girls are getting excited. Well, Caelan is. Ellery just wants to know if she can eat something. She’s all about food right now. Big time. Which is good. I will take it!
We didn’t go all out on the girls. We got a little more big stuff for Caelan than Ellery, mainly because Ellery has everything Caelan once had, and she really has no idea what she wants. She won’t even be one until January. I think that’s just natural, but I could be wrong. If I am, whatever. Caelan is at the age where she wants everything she sees, so we just took a few of her cues and bought her things we know she’d actually play with, like the LeapPad with some games, a Power Wheel scooter and a dollhouse to name a few. Ellery is getting some Weebles (the one thing we never bought for Caelan), some sorting and learning toys and some puzzles. She will be getting a new carseat and clothes for her birthday.
I can appreciate the commercialization of the season, in a way. I do LOVE a good sale and can appreciate the bargains found at this time. I refuse to be the person who just walks the aisles and buys any old thing for someone, I have to have an idea and a plan to execute. I don’t randomly shop, unless it is for myself. And that won’t happen for a while. 🙂 I have everything I need.
How about you? Christmas shopping plan? Done? Last minute shopper? Random shopper? Go all out? Follow a budget? What’s your Christmas shopping style?
